24 months with possibility of extension subject to funding.

Could you be our new Kitchen Training Manager? Feeding Coventry is a small charity based in the heart of Foleshill with a passion for supporting people out of food poverty and into resilience. We work with families and individuals to support them in times of crisis, provide food and professional support and create an environment where they can feel safe, encouraged and find space for enjoyment.

We are looking for a Kitchen Training Manager to lead the development of our kitchen project. The kitchen project is an exciting new venture based at Foleshill Community Centre where people can come together, eat well, learn essential skills for life, and repurpose food that would otherwise go to waste. This will benefit thousands of people accessing Foleshill Community Centre and the Social Supermarket.

With expanding demand and a growing team, we need a Kitchen Training Manager that will lead the kitchen to thrive and grow into a thriving community cafe. You will be entrepreneurial in your approach and work with the CEO to implement innovative approaches to generate income through the kitchen that support the charity's objectives.

The Garden will ensure that fresh food donations received from individuals, businesses and allotment organisations provide fresh, healthy, high-quality food to social supermarket members and the residents of Foleshill. The kitchen will also become a training opportunity that helps people make the most of the food they have.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Experienced chef who can prepare fresh food into nutritious dishes.

  • Creating innovative and inspirational sustainable solutions for healthy eating to repurpose near-end-of-life food.

  • Creating meals to support our corporate events.

  • Take full responsibility for food hygiene and maintaining the SFBB and the food hygiene certification.

  • To work with the Business Development Assistant to coordinate catering for groups and hirers and contribute to organising community and fundraising events.

  • To work with the Communication and Marketing Officer to advertise the kitchen offerings including fundraising and community events, corporate packages and cafe offerings.

  • To work with the Volunteer Coordinator or Senior Advocacy and Support Manager to design and deliver appropriate training programmes for members and volunteers.

  • To work with the Chief Executive to lead and manage new business initiatives and develop, implement and manage the project plans and budgets for the kitchen.

  • To actively support team meetings and share knowledge on current activity for the benefit of the wider team.

  • To support external communications such as social media, when needed.

  • Confident and able to work on own initiative leading on new ways of working for the development of an effective service.

  • Able to work flexible hours, prioritising needs of centre management.

  • Excellent organisational, administrative and prioritisation skills.

Essential Skills

  • Proven work experience as a chef and leading on the development of new business/community initiatives.

  • Experience of working with fresh food production and allergies in the workplace.

  • Experience with food safety and hygiene regulations.

  • Track record of producing recipes and menus.

  • Good project management experience - can show project development from concept to implementation.

  • Confident to delegate tasks to ensure food is prepared in a timely manner.

  • An understanding of the barriers and complexities in supporting those experiencing food poverty.

  • Commitment to inclusivity and equality in service provision.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to converse with a wide range of people and build positive relationships.

  • Ability to manage own time and be accountable.

  • Willing to be part of a team and take initiative to meet shared goals.

  • Reliable, trustworthy and honest. Education and Training.

  • Computer literate with experience of using Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.

  • Basic safeguarding certification or willingness to work towards Desirable skills and experience.

  • Working or volunteering in a community or not for profit organisation.

  • Willingness to undertake additional training relevant to the role.

  • Level 3 Food Safety & Hygiene.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 24 months

Salary: From £28,860.00 per year
